Born 26th October 1936, Solomon Levy had his education in the Gibraltar Grammar School, in a Jewish boarding school in England, Carmel College, and then at the College of Estate Management in London. He began practice as an Estate Agent in April 1960 and continues to this day. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
In April 1960 Solomon joined the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and served for 18 years in the Reserve of Officers and was awarded the Efficiency Decoration in 1972 and the Bar in 1978. He has served on many different committees such as the Cancer Relief Society and Gibraltar Regiment Association. In 1994 he was appointed a Justice of the Peace in Gibraltar.
Solomon was Chairman of the Gibraltar Music Centre for 10 years. He is also now a member of the Advisory Cultural Committee and a member of the Cultural Grants Committee. In 1999 he was awarded the MBE for services to Gibraltar. He has been and still is, for the past 25 years, Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Gibraltar Branch and, on the 1st August 2008, was appointed the first ever Civic Mayor of Gibraltar.
